Portland, Ore. - Up two goals with less than 10 minutes remaining, the University of Providence men's soccer team conceded two goals in regulation and then one more in overtime to drop 3-2 to Warner Pacific.
Fernando Gutierrez scored first for the Argos, scoring off the free kick from Manuel Garcia. Garcia scored again in the 58th minute to take a 2-0 lead. The Knights got on the board off a penalty kick from Franklin Gordon in the 85th minute. Three minutes later, Gordon found Arturo Bahena to even the score. In overtime, Arturo Bahena scored again to give the Knights a 3-2 victory.
Head Coach
Matt Ball was displeased with the officiating, citing the penalty kick that gave the Knights some late momentum. In particular, he was upset at the penalty kick that propelled the Knights, saying it was a great tackle.Â
"We shouldn't lose when we're up 2-0," he said. "But when the ref gives them momentum it's hard to stop."
Ball was pleased with the performance of Garcia and
Carlos Heredia. Garcia finished with a goal and an assist.
The Argos (6-4, 8-4-1) will next play on Friday when they take on Rocky Mountain College (7-1, 8-3) on Oct. 25 at 3:30 p.m.
