Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Darko-Kelly, Daho Lead Argos Past Dinos

Great Falls, Mont. – Zaccheus Darko-Kelly scored 27 points, and JF Daho had a career-high 18 off the bench to lead the University of Providence men's basketball team to an 82-72 win over the University of Calgary.

After a slow start in which the Argos found themselves in a 11-1 hole, head coach Steve Keller switched away from his zone defense into man to man. Powered behind strong defense, the squad stormed back to take a 41-29 lead into half. The Argos cruised the whole second half behind sturdy production from both Darko-Kelly, who had 14 second-half points, and Daho, who had 13.

"These were two big wins," Keller said. "I'm totally happy with the effort for the weekend. We got a bunch of new guys that keep learning the system that should keep getting better and better every game."

Darko-Kelly finished with nine rebounds, five assists, and three blocks to go along with his 27 points.  Freshman guard Dawson Fowler had eight points and five boards. Jaxen Hashley scored seven points and grabbed eight boards. Daho also added six rebounds.

"We proved tonight that some of our starters didn't play as much as some of our guys off the bench," Keller said. "That's what it about. When you get the opportunity, use it."

Keller was pleased with the performance of his two freshman, Fowler and Tyree Whitcomb, and their energy off the bench.

"They're not afraid out there," Keller said. "I haven't played a lot of freshman in my coaching career. I'm trusting them to play. They've proven they can play."

The Argos (2-0) will next take the court against Providence University College & Theological Seminary. Originally schedule for Sunday, the game will now take place on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in the McLaughlin Center.
