GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The accolades keep on coming for the University of Providence women's volleyball team.
A few days after defeating Rocky Mountain College in a
thrilling five-set match to clinch a share of the Frontier Conference regular season championship, two Argos have been named the Frontier Conference Player of the Week.
Cydney Finberg-Roberts was named the Setter of the Week after breaking a conference record by having 75 assists against the Battlin' Bears. She also netted 16 digs and four kills.
"I thought she did a really nice job of putting the ball in the window for our hitters," head coach
Arunas Duda said. "She moved the ball extremely well obviously. She ran a really good sophisticated offense for us and really put our hitters in good situations. It seems like we're getting a ton of kills because she ran a really good offense for us. It was really impressive what she did."
Kelsey Shaver was named the Hitter of the Week for the 6
th time this season. Having missed the previous three games with a back injury, Shaver recorded 29 kills on the weekend. She was also active defensively, contributing 23 digs for the Argos.
"Her performance was huge," Duda said. "We knew we needed a lot of balance on offense against Rocky. Just having her as a go-to hitter in a big match, it was huge. She's done great all year for us. I know her back was not feeling great and for her to push through the way she did was just awesome. Once again she really impressed."
The duo will need to continue their performances this weekend as the Argos host the
Frontier Conference Tournament this Friday and Saturday. Providence, who is the #2 seed, will play the University of Montana – Northern at 5 p.m. on Friday.
