Billings, Mont.- Battle in Billings was for the right to share the Conference Title and the University of Providence (21-6) and Rocky Mountain, (18-11) went right down to the wire Saturday night. The Argo volleyball team gave Rocky their only loss this season at home. Rocky won game one of the match with the power hitting of Daniella Russell, who finished with 13 kills, but then the Argos, who were lead in kills by Senior Kelsey Shaver (29), came back in the second, fourth and final game to get the win in five, 3-2.
UP played with a team effort to earn the victory. Kelsey Shaver had 29 kills, 23 digs, 3 blocks and 2 service aces. Senior Averi Dyer had 22 kills, 2 assist and 23 digs. Cydney Finberg-Roberts added 75 assist, which sets a new conference record that dates back to 2010, 14 digs and 2 kills. Power hitter Jensyn Turner concluded the night with 16 kills, 10 digs, and 2 service aces. The National Player of the Week, Sacha Legros, had another great match with 41 digs, 4 service aces, and 2 assist.
"I couldn't be more proud of these girls, to come into Billings and battle a team like Rocky, on Senior night, and get the win, this is just awesome," said Head Coach Arunas Duda after the match.
When Duda was asked about sharing the Frontier Conference regular season title he replied, "I'm not sure when we play next week in the Frontier Conference Tournament, but our team will be ready, Right now I'm just going to enjoy this win, I'm so very proud of these girls."
The Frontier Conference Tournament begins Friday. November 15 at 2 PM at McLaughlin Center with three matches scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
