No. 22 Argos Rally in Final Minutes to Upset No. 8 Saints, 56-53

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The No. 22 Argos (15-8, 4-7) were clutch down the stretch as they produced a 6-0 run over the final two minutes of clock to stun the No. 8 Carroll College Fighting Saints (15-7, 7-4) on Friday evening, 56-53.

Emilee Maldonado netted a game-high 18 points, while also adding five boards, five assists, and two steals. Parker Esary flirted with her 13th double-double of the season as she tallied 13 points and narrowly missed achieving the goal with nine boards in the win. Tristan Murphy joined Maldonado and Esary in double-digits with 10 points, while also pulling down seven boards.

Hannah Dean led the charge for the Saints with 14 points, while Christine Denny and Danielle Wagner joined her in double-digits with 12 and 10, respectively.

The Argos finished both opening periods with a four-point advantage in route to their eight-point lead at the break, 33-25.

During the third period, the Argos extended their lead to 10 at the seven-minute mark as the Argos opened the period on a 4-2 run, 37-27. The Saints responded with an 8-0 run of their own to close the gap to two, 37-35. However, that was as close as they would get. Over the final four minutes of the period, Providence went on a 9-5 rally to take the six-point advantage headed into the final 10 minutes, 46-40.

Carroll kicked things into gear in the final period. The Saints used the first seven and a half minutes of the final period to produce a 13-4 run to take their lead since the five-minute mark of the second period, 53-50. However, clutch defense from the Argos held the Saints scoreless over the final two minutes and a 6-0 sealed the Argos win over the top-10 ranked Carroll Saints.
