Softball Topped Twice on Tuesday by No. 14 Corban

SALEM, Ore. – Argo softball fell in their final two games against the No. 14 Warriors to close out their road trip in the Beaver State on Tuesday.
 
GAME ONE – University of Providence 2 – Corban University 5
The first two and a half innings were quiet before the Argos got things going in the bottom of the third. Following a hit by pitch to open the inning, Skyla Nuebauer stole second and advanced to third on a Corban error to get in scoring position. Taylor Mathews followed up with an RBI-single knock to plate Nuebauer and give the Argos a 1-0 lead. At the top of the fourth, the Warriors combined a one-out triple, with an RBI-double to tie things up at one. The Warriors opened the fifth with a single. Following a pair of outs and a stolen base, Corban knocked another RBI-double to take their first lead of the game, 2-1. The Argos responded in the bottom of the sixth. The lead-off batter was ground-out, but a double and a fielding error put two on base, including a runner in scoring position for the Argos. Karlie Southworth connected on an RBI-single to tie the game up at two heading into the final inning. The Warriors opened the seventh a foul out. Following a pair of singles, with both runners advancing to scoring position, the Warriors tallied a 2-RBI double to retake the advantage, 4-2. Following a second out, the Warriors would knock another RBI-double to extend their lead to five. The Argos were not able to attempt a comeback in the final frame as the Warriors took the win, 5-2.
 
At the Plate: Karlie Southworth led the Argos going 3-for-3 during the contest with one RBI. Taylor Mathews knocked in the other RBI ash she went 1-for-4 on the day. Hannah VanDomelen, Shelby McMillen, and Karsten Williams tallied the Argos other three hits during the contest.
 
In the Circle: Brieanna Clifford (1-4) pitched a complete game, allowing five runs on nine hits and putting out a pair of batters in the loss.
 
GAME TWO – University of Providence 0 – Corban University 13
The Warriors opened the contest with a single and a stolen base to get into scoring position early. Corban would tally a double to plate the first run of the inning, 1-0. The Warriors put runners back in scoring position to open the second. An RBI-single knocked in a run to push their lead to two. A stolen base put runners on third and second again, before a 2-RBI double would give the Warriors a 4-0 lead. The Warriors bats continued to be hot as an RBI-triple and an RBI-double would plate two more runners and close the inning with a 6-0 Corban advantage. Corban continued to tack on runs in the third inning. The Warriors got on base with a fielding error before a ground-out would allow the lead-off batter to score for Corban, 7-0. A walk and a single would plate another runner for the Warriors, 8-0. After loading the bases, a 3-RBI single unloaded the bases and pushed the Warriors lead to 11. One final stolen base would give Corban a 12-0 lead before the Argos would end the inning. The Warriors tacked on one final run in the fourth inning to extend the game to its final 13-0.
 
At the Plate: VanDomelen was perfect for the Argos, going 2-for-2 in the series finale.
 
In the Circle: VanDomelen pitched two innings, allowing six runs on eight hits. KJ Schweikert closed out the contest, allowing seven runs on four hits through three innings pitched.
 
Up Next
The Argos will head to Surrey, British Columbia to take on the University of British Columbia on March 29 and 30. First pitch on Friday will be 2 p.m. and on Saturday at 11 a.m.
