GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball team suffered another late-game loss in the Frontier Conference Saturday night, this time at the hands of Carroll College.
Down 60-63 with three seconds left,
Bailey Cartwright hit a shot from the corner that looked like a three-pointer, but her foot was on the line. The Argos had to foul and ended up losing 62-64.
"It was a heartbreaker," head coach
Bill Himmelberg said. "Give Carroll a lot of credit they made some plays down the stretch. We made some plays too. They just made one more play than us."
Cartwright led the Argos (12-8, 3-5) with 17 points and 9 rebounds.
Parker Esary sored 15 points and grabbed 9 boards, while Randich netted 15 points. Danielle Wagner led the Fighting Saints (13-6, 5-2) with 22 points.
"When you look at that stat sheet, we played an extremely similar game," Himmelberg said. "It comes down to one play, and not necessarily at the end. They made a play tonight and we didn't. There were lots of chances for us to make plays throughout the game and we didn't do that. We just have to find a way to do it."
The Argos will hit the floor again Friday night in the McLaughlin Center at 5:30 against Montana Tech.
"I know they're heart broke over where they're at right now," Himmelberg said. "But we know that we can beat anybody. When things start falling for us things are going to start going in the right direction. We don't need to peak right now we just need to peak at the end."
