Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Argos Big 2nd Half Propels Team to Victory over Lights

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – A strong second half by the #7 ranked University of Providence men's basketball propelled the Argos to finish with a 100-65 blowout victory over Montana State Northern.

The Argos outscored the Lights 58-34 in the second half to secure the victory. The Argos shot 25/33 (76%) from the field in the second half.

"We always talk about winning the first three or four minutes of every half," head coach Steve Keller said. "We had some big runs. I just thought we made shots, but we made good passes to get those shots. We did a couple things different on offense in the second half that was pretty effective."

The undefeated Argos were led by the duo of Brandon Cotton and Zaccheus Darko-Kelly, who both scored 23 points on the night. Cotton dished out five dimes, while Darko-Kelly had four assists and four rebounds. Dawson Fowler scored 16 points on the night, and capped off his perfect night (7/7) from the field by banking in a three from the top of the key. Jaxen Hashley scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

"Those two each had 23," Keller said. "They seem to get them in bunches. That's a good sign. If a team makes a run at us we can make a run right back at them."

Kavon Bey led the Lights with 15 points, Adam Huse contributed 13, and Jesse Keltner added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Lights.

Keller was proud of the effort on the defensive night, holding a lethal offensive team to 65 points.

"I thought we played pretty good defense on them," he said. "We always feel like they are one of the hardest teams in the league to guard. I felt like we put a lot of effort into defense and we held them to 65. I'm just proud of our guys. That's a good basketball team. That's a well-coached basketball team. We didn't play a perfect game by any means but we played a pretty solid game."

Up next for the Argos is a conference showdown on Saturday against Carroll College, who is also sitting at the top of the conference with an undefeated record.

"We're both 3-0 in conference," Keller said. "It's a big game for both of us. They're good. We've got four straight games on the road, so we've got to find a way to win some road games.
