Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Argos Fall to #17 Warriors

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball team couldn't overcome a stagnant first half, falling to #17 Lewis-Clark State 74-64 Saturday evening.

The Argos went into the locker room down 44-24 at halftime. The Argos were able to storm back in the second half and cut the lead to six, but the Warriors stayed strong and came away with the victory.

"We just couldn't overcome that defecit," head coach Bill Himmelberg said. "We fought valiantly in the second half but it was too much to overcome."

The Argos struggled shooting the ball. They went 5/38 from beyond the arc and shot 32% from the field overall.

"We got plenty of shots," Himmelberg said. "We just didn't make shots tonight. We had wide open looks. We executed the way we wanted to offensively we just couldn't knock them down."

Jansen Edmiston and Kiara Burlage both scored 18 points for the Warriors (15-5, 7-3), who extend their winning streak to six games. Peyton Souvenir added 11 points and 6 rebounds.

Bailey Cartwright led the Argos with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Her 17 points propelled her to 1,000 points in her collegiate career. This is her first season with the Argos after transferring from Concordia University. She;s the third Argo to reach 1,000 career points this season for the Argos, following Parker Esary and Emilee Maldonado

"I was excited for Bailey tonight," Himmelberg said. "It's a hard thing to score 1,000 points in a career. She scored a lot of points at another school but it was cool she got to celebrate it with us. I'm happy for her."

The Argos (13-9, 4-6) will hit the floor again on Thursday when they travel to Billings to take on Rocky Mountain.
