BUTTE, Mont. –
Zaccheus Darko-Kelly scored 37 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the University of Providence men's basketball team to a 92-82 victory over Montana Tech Saturday night.
Darko-Kelly's, who was named one of 50 players to the Bevo Francis Award watch list earlier in the day, scored his 37 points on a 14/18 shooting performance, including three of three from beyond the arc.
Jaxen Hashley had a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds and
Brandon Cotton added 14 points for the Argos.
"We found a way to win," head coach
Steve Keller said. "We hung in there and battled."
Keller was impressed with the offensive execution down the stretch, which turned a back and forth game into a 10-point victory.
"In the last seven to eight minutes we outscored them quite a bit," Keller said. "Obviously Z had a great game. We talked about how other guys need to step up.
Caleb Currington hit a big three for us.
Dawson Fowler and
Rashee Stocks had a couple big buckets for us. They stepped up."
The win gives the Argos (21-5, 9-5) a cushion over both Montana Tech (14-11, 6-7) and Montana State-Northern (16-10, 6-8) in the Frontier Conference standings. They're in a tightly contested race with Carroll (19-7, 10-4) for the two spot. The two teams, who split the two games they've played against each other this year, will meet Feb. 27
The Argos will return to Great Falls on Friday to take on Montana Western at 7:30 p.m.
