Kansas City, MO – Small College Basketball and the National Awards Committee announced Saturday morning that University of Providence men's basketball star
Zaccheus Darko-Kelly was named to the Top 50 watch list for the 2020 Bevo Francis Award. Darko-Kelly was originally
named to the Top 100 watch list in January.
The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the best overall season for a small college basketball program. The list consists of the top players from over 1,100 schools at the NCAA Division II and III, NAIA Division I and II, USCAA and NCCAA level. The committee considers season statistics, individual achievements, personal character and team achievements.
The original watch list of 100 players was released on Jan. 15. and was narrowed down to 50 on Saturday. The list will be reduced 25 players on March 15. The finalists will be announced on April 4
th, with the winner being crowned on April 6.
Darko-Kelly has led the Argos to a 20-5 record this season. He leads the Argos in scoring (22.3 ppg), rebounds (7.6 rpg), assists (5.6 apg), steals (2.3 spg) and blocks (1.4 bpg), all while shooting a whopping 53% from the field and 45% from beyond the arc
.
He leads the Frontier Conference in scoring, steals and blocks, and ranks in the Top 5 in rebounds, assists and field goal percentage. Nationally, Darko-Kelly ranks in the Top 10 in three categories, ranking 5
th in total scoring (536 points), 7
th in points per game (22.3) and 9
th in assists (135).
Darko-Kelly and the Argos will
play Saturday night against Montana Tech at 7:30 p.m.
