Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Esary, Maldonado Cruise Past Lights

HAVRE, Mont. – After a 10-day break away from game action, the University of Providence women's basketball came to play Wednesday night against Montana State-Northern, defeating the Lights 73-57 on the road.

The Argos got up early, ending the first quarter up 20-5. The Lights shot better in the 2nd quarter, cutting the lead by three to enter the break down 32-20. The Argos responded with another run of their own in the third quarter and never looked back.

"I'm happy with how they played and came out," head coach Bill Himmelberg said. "They came out with intensity and defended pretty good for most of the game. We just continue to get better at the defensive end. And we made shots. When we make shots we're pretty tough."

The Argos were led by their dynamic duo Parker Esary and Emilee Maldonado. Esary finished with a double-double, scoring 23 points and pulling 12 boards on 11/14 shooting. Maldonado record 18 points and seven assists, on 7/8 shooting, including 3/4 from deep.

"They were really big tonight," Himmelberg said. "They made some big shots and defended. When we needed something we could go to them. They executed everything. Their leadership was really good tonight."

The Lights were led by freshman L'Tia Lawrence who 15 scored points. Tiara Gilham added on 13 points and six assists, while Ryley Ker tacked on 10 points and five boards.

"You have to give Northern a lot of credit," Himmelberg said. "Tiara Gilham is a great player. L'Tia Lawrence a freshman is going to be really good for them. They got a lot of really good players."

The Argos will return to the court on Saturday, traveling to Dillon to face Montana Western.
