GREAT FALLS, Mont. – In a game that featured 10 lead changes and nine ties, the #25
th ranked University of Providence women's basketball team fell to #6 Carroll in their home opener Saturday night.
The fourth quarter especially featured a barrage of three-pointers, including three in a row from Argo guard
Kerstyn Pimperton. It wasn't enough however, as the Argos (1-2, 1-2) ultimately fell to the Saints (11-1, 5-0) 71-63.
"We're just not quite there yet," head coach
Bill Himmelberg said. "We're getting after it a little bit. I thought we competed well tonight. Carroll's experience carried them there at the end. We had a couple silly fouls down the stretch. Overall I'm proud of how our girls competed. We're getting better every game."
The dynamic duo of
Emilee Maldonado and
Parker Esary led the way for the Argos. Maldonado finished with 18 points and eight rebounds while Esary added 14 points and three boards. Pimperton finished with nine points, Maddie Dixon finished with eight and
Kenedy Cartwright finished with six.
"Emilee was great tonight," Himmelberg said. "She's been playing super well lately. I thought we had a lot of different looks on the floor tonight and gave the kids a lot of different looks."
Christine Denny led the way for the Saints with 21 points and nine rebounds. Danielle Wagner added 16 points while Jamie Pickens netted 14.The Saints were on fire all over the floor, shooting 50% as a team.
Both teams will have a quick turnaround, with a rematch taking place at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
"We have to be ready to go," Himmelberg said. "Hopefully we'll have some rested legs and we can get one tomorrow."
