Argos Fall to Fighting Saints

HELENA, Mont. – The University of Providence men's soccer team fell to Carroll College 4-0 Friday afternoon. The loss officially eliminates the Argos (3-10-1, 3-8-1) from postseason play.

Rory Bloy scored three first-half goals for the Fighting Saints (5-7-2, 5-5-2) and the team never looked back. Santiago Morazzani scored the final goal on a penalty kick in the 69th minute to secure the 4-0 win.

"We were in the game in the beginning," interim head coach Michael Rahn said. "We had a couple chances but we didn't take care of it. We lost concentration on their first goal and left a man open in the box and gave up an easy one. It kind of snowballed unfortunately from there. I was really proud of the guys. They played with their hearts and they never gave up."

The Fighting Saints outshot the Argos 26 to 16 on the day. Tomeu Nebot Schmalfeld led the way with five shots (two on target) while Mika Lukas Lankhof recorded four shots. Kolby Hayes and Vincent Stoppel added three shots each for the Argos.

The lone bright spot was goalkeeper Evan Scholes, who broke the program's single game save record by recording 17 on the day. The previous record was held by Zach Johnson, who recorded 15 saves against Simon Fraser in 2010.

"Evan has been an incredible student-athlete for us," Rahn said. "He's been a great captain and a great senior leader. He has always been classy. He's a great Argo and his feat will go down as a legendary status in our program."

The team will spend tomorrow traveling to Washington in preparation to take on Walla Walla on Sunday, in what will be the team's final game of the 2021 campaign. The game will kick off at 2:00 p.m. MTN.

"It's going to be a battle," Rahn said. "The guys will be hungry to achieve some success. It's our last game of the year so there's a lot of motivation to end on a high note."
