WHITEFISH, Mont. – Two University of Providence volleyball players were named the Erck Hotels Frontier Conference Players of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Cydney Finberg-Roberts was named the Setter of the Week and
Zoe Naugle was named the Defender of the Week.
"It's really cool to give Zoe that recognition and for Fin to continue to stand out the way she does," head coach
Arunas Duda said. "They are two girls that definitely deserve it this week."
The award marks the sixth time that Finberg-Roberts has received the recognition this season, and the 15
th time that she has won the award in her career. The setter from Columbia Falls, Mont. averaged an astounding 13.3 assists in the two games this week, recording 40 assists in both games.
"She had a great week this week," Duda said. "We wanted to run our offense and try to put our hitters in the best situation possible and she was amazing at that. She did a really nice job all week long of her decision-making and her defense was good. She put the ball in the window for our hitters."
This is the first time that Naugle has received the Defender of the Week award in her career. The middle blocker from Castle Rock, Wash. recorded 11 blocks between the two games. She was also a major factor offensively, recording a total of 16 kills.
"We've made a lot of headway with Zoe this week from a training standpoint," Duda said. "She's been responding to the coaching staff really well. I'm glad she's gotten this recognition because she is a big part of what we do and hasn't been noticed enough. She blocks so much at the net. She's a big presence."
With Naugle picking her up the award, the team has now had five separate players named Player of the Week so far this season.
Sacha Legros,
Sadie Lott and
Jenna Thorne join Finberg-Roberts and Naugle for a total of 13 separate Player of the Week Awards between the five of them on the season.
"It's really cool," Duda said. "We can't afford to be one-dimensional. When we have five players that can make an impact on the roster like that, we're going to be hard to beat."
The news comes after the Argos (21-2, 8-0),
clinched the Frontier Conference Regular Season Championship outright on Friday after defeating Montana Western in straight sets. It is the third straight season that the Argos have won the regular season, and the second straight season they've done it outright.
The team will look for their 15
th win in a row on Thursday, when they take on Carroll College. The game, which will double as Senior Night, will begin at 7:00 p.m., with Senior Night festivities taking place ten minutes prior.
