Buday Named CCC Wrestler of the Week

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference announced that KC Buday has been named the WVT Laboratory Men's Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

"It's very well earned on KC's part," head coach Steve Komac said. "His work ethic is fantastic. How quickly he's making strides is awesome. I think he's definitely one of the best heavyweights in the country. It's a very good early season accomplishment that we want to continue to build on."

Buday, who is currently the 13th-ranked heavyweight in the nation, had a dominant week for the Argos (1-2). He finished second overall at the Grand View Open, one of the most challenging tournaments the team will participate in all season. Buday pinned his first opponent and won in sudden victory in the second round to advance to the quarterfinals. He won his next matches by decision before falling to the top-seeded heavyweight in the nation, Greg Hagan, by decision in the final.

He was also one of three Argos that won their individual match during the dual against MSU-Northern last week, taking down Rylan Moldenhauer 3-1 by decision.

"He's always pushing," Komac said. "He beat a very good kid in the semifinals in Iowa – he just wore the kid out and broke his spirit. KC wears on people hard. Even in the final match that he lost, he wore on the kid pretty good."

Buday spent the entire summer lifting weights and working on his body in preparation for the upcoming season.

"KC wants to be a National Champion," Komac said. "We may not be there right now but that's what his goals are. He's definately capable and he's so far been off to a pretty good start."

Buday and the team will next compete on Sunday, Nov. 21 at the Spokane Invite in Spokane, Wash.
