Argos Get Back in Win Column With Route of Skylights

HAVRE, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball team got back in the win column Saturday afternoon, defeating MSU-Northern 74-48 in the Armory Gymnasium.

The Argos (10-3, 1-1) entered the game motivated after falling to Rocky Mountain College on Thursday. The coaching staff and team spent hours watching game film to learn from their mistakes, and that dedication paid off on Saturday.

"We improved on the things that we worked on yesterday," head coach Bill Himmelberg said. "We were able to execute and do the things we talked about after watching the film against Rocky Mountain. We saw a lot of similar things that we saw against Rocky and we were able to combat that a lot better."

Emilee Maldonado led the team with 19 points. Kerstyn Pimperton continued on her hot streak, scoring 15 points for the squad. Reed Hazard chipped in 13 points for the squad, while Parker Esary added 12.

As a team, the Argos shot 51.8% from the field and 36.8% from beyond the arc. The increased field goal percentage came from more ball movement, Himmelberg said.

"We were a lot more patient," he said. "We moved the ball from side to side. We shot it later in the shot clock than we did on Thursday. We made them defend longer and we got better looks. And we took care of the ball really well. I'm really pleased with that."

Peyton Kehr led the Lights (3-6, 0-2) with 17 points. L'Tia Lawrence added 12.

The Argos will have two weeks off before traveling to Arizona for the Cactus Classic. The team's first game will be Dec. 20 against Saint Francis in Phoenix.

"It was really important that we were able to get this one," Himmelberg said. "We'll be playing some Top 25 teams down there so we have to be ready to go. We got two weeks to get our mind right and bodies healthy and be able to get in the gym and work on some things. We're excited about that so we can build on what we did tonight."
