GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's volleyball was ranked 24
th in the latest
NAIA National Poll that was released Wednesday morning.
The Argos (1-1, 1-1) moved down four spots, after opening the season ranked 20th.
"I think it's a nice honor," head coach
Arunas Duda said. "I'm sure a lot of it is based on our accomplishments the last two years. Certainly it's a great place for us to start. I'm not sure we know we know who we are yet. It's just so early on in the season with so many younger players. I'm definitely pleased. It's an honor to be in the Top 25. That's always a goal for us."
The Argos are one of two Frontier Conference teams ranked in the poll. Rocky Mountain is ranked 18
th. Carroll, with whom the Argos split games with last weekend, received votes, but ultimately didn't crack the Top 25.
Duda learned a lot about his team in the opening weekend last week. When the Argos took the floor last Friday, it had been 420 days since the team had last played a game. With a lot of roster turnover, Duda didn't know what to expect. The Argos came out and defeated the Fighting Saints on Friday in four sets, before falling to them again on Saturday in five.
"I loved our energy and effort when we started on Friday," Duda said. "It definitely think we were worn down on Saturday. We struggled to make some adjustments at times. We need to go back to the gym and focus on the fundamentals. Once that's second nature to us I think we'll continue to improve. This team has some really good athletes on it that we're really excited about it. I like our potential."
The Argos will get a crack against the other ranked Frontier Conference team this weekend, when they face off against the #18 Rocky Mountain Battlin' Bears (2-0, 2-0). The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 7:00 p.m. Friday night, followed by the second game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
