GREAT FALLS, Mont. – A strong second half from University of Providence point guard
Emilee Maldonado helped the Argos get back on track Saturday evening, defeating Montana Tech 59-46.
Maldonado, who scored her first and only points of the first half at the buzzer, was unguardable in the second half. She scored 17 points in the second half, including three three-pointers, to lead the Argos (5-4, 5-4) past the Orediggers (4-11, 4-11).
"Emilee was amazing as always," head coach
Bill Himmelberg said. "She runs the show and does everything we need."
Maldonado finished with 19 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Parker Esary also had a monster game for the Argos, scoring 15 points and pulling down 16 rebounds.
Maddy Dixon chipped in nine points and seven rebounds while
Kerstyn Pimperton added eight points.
The win was a sigh of relief for the Argos, who are two days removed from a
thirty-point loss to Montana Western.
"We really struggled against Western," Himmelberg said. "I thought we gelled a lot better tonight. The things we worked on in practice I thought we came out and executed."
The Orediggers scored by committee. Dani Urick recorded eight points, six rebounds and three blocks while Brooke Heggie added eight points, four rebounds and two blocks. Tech struggled to score from the field, shooting a measly 25.4% from the field, though made up for it by shooting 75% from the line.
The two teams will face off for the final time this season tomorrow at 2 p.m.
"Tech's good and we're going to have to be ready," Himmelberg said. "They're a tough team. We're going to have to be ready. It'll be a tough game tomorrow again."
