Lorring Named CCC Player of the Week After First Collegiate Competition

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Emily Lorring of the University of Providence women's wrestling team was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Cascade Collegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week this week.

In her first collegiate tournament, Lorring participated in three duals, finishing 2-1. She started out with a pin on Andrea Jones of Grays Harbor College, then defeated Veronica Rodrigues of Simpson University via technical fall. She got pinned her last match to Erin Redford of Eastern Oregon.

"There was a lot of really good things that we saw this weekend," head coach Matt Atwood said. "There's a lot of things that we need to work on. Overall she wrestled really well. She was moving forward, she was confident, she wasn't scared. It was really fun to watch her."

Atwood has been pleased with her development so far this season. Though the wrestlers have only been practicing for a month, he can already see improvements from Lorring, which he credits that to her coachability.

"She's had some frustrating moments," he said. "She's continued to keep her head down and work hard. She's one of the hardest workers on the team. She doesn't ever complain she just does what's asked. The biggest thing is she listens extremely well. We really saw in her matches the things that she worked on in practice. Things that she wasn't doing early, she really listened and made the adjustments. She's very coachable. We've only been with her a few weeks and we can already see the improvements and the hard work that she's been putting in paying off."
