Six Argos Earn All-American Status on Day One of NAIA National Tournament

WICHITA, Kan. -- The University of Providence women's wrestling program had three athletes advance to the semifinals and six athletes earn All-American status at the NAIA National Tournament on Friday.

Seniors Erin Hikiji, Waipuilani Estrella-Beauchamp, and junior Paige Morales advanced to the semifinals while junior Alyssa Randles, sophomore Hailey Sutton, and freshman Joely Slyter advanced on the backside of the bracket to earn All-American status.

Hikiji went 3-0 on Friday defeating Mackenzie Gilbert 10-0, Liana Ferreira 8-1, and #8 Alexsys Jacquez 11-4 to advance to the semifinals and secure her fourth career All-American status. Hikiji will wrestle #4 Lita Cruz tomorrow in the semifinals.  

Morales finished Friday 2-0 defeating Kylie Robledo 9-2 and #6 Avy Perez 8-4 to punch her ticket to the semifinals and earn her third career All-American status. Morales will wrestle #2 Avery Ashley in the semifinals tomorrow.

Estrella-Beauchamp also went 3-0 defeating Aileya Sath 10-0, pinned Ashlee Palimo'o in 2:26, and pinned #7 Kendall Bostelman in 4:08 to advance to the semifinals and secure her fourth career All-American status. Estrella-Beauchamp will wrestle #2 Jumoke Adekoye tomorrow in the semifinals.  

Alyssa Randles defeated Catherine Campbell 3-2 in championship round one but fell to #3 Kamilah Brooks 6-6 in the quarterfinals. With an All-American bid on the line Randles defeated #8 Maya Davis 12-2 to earn her second career All-American status.

Joely Slyter pinned Sigrun Metzger in 1:06 in championship round one but fell to #2 Salyna Shotwell in 5:18 in the quarterfinals. On the backside of the bracket Slyter defeated #5 Mayangelie Colon 6-2 to earn her first career All-American status.

Hailey Sutton defeated #7 Maria Slaughter 9-2 but fell to #2 Shannon Workinger 9-0 in the quarterfinals. In the All-American round Sutton defeated Sierra Medford 10-2 to earn her first career All-American status.

Aspen Dodge, Esther Han, and Elise Twait advanced to the blood rounds but came up short of All-American status.

The Argos will be back in action tomorrow for the semifinals at 9:00 a.m. (MST) in Wichita, Kansas at the Heartland Credit Union Arena.
