"I'm just proud of our kids," head coach
Bill Himmelberg said. "That's kind of our expectations for our kids and they're living up to those expectations. I'm really proud of how well we do in the classroom."
To be eligible for the team, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and maintain a 3.2 GPA or higher.
When recruiting, the coaching staff has always prioritized potential student-athletes who excel in the classroom, as that work ethic tends to translate to the basketball court.
"We try to focus on people who are goal driven, not only on the basketball court but in life," Himmelberg said. "We are student-athletes, and student comes first. We want to set our kids up so they not only can be successful when they're here on the basketball court, we want them to be successful for the rest of their lives."
