Duda Notches 300th Career Win as Argos Top Orediggers

BUTTE, Mont. – The University of Providence volleyball team completed their second straight weekend sweep, defeating Montana Tech in three sets Saturday afternoon.

"This one was much better than yesterday," head coach Arunas Duda said. "Three is much better than five."

The Argos (14-2, 14-2) defeated the Orediggers (6-9, 6-10) 25-21, 25-21, 21-19. The win marked the 300th win for head coach Arunas Duda, who's gotten all 300 wins at UP.

"It's really fun to be able to share that with this group and have their names associated with it because it's all their effort and hard work," Duda said. "We've had some really great teams in the past and they obviously helped a lot. This year is special as well."

The Argos struggled to make adjustments after last night's five-set marathon, in which the Battlin' Bears outside and middle attackers had their way with the Argos. The Argos made some personnel adjustments, which paid off greatly for the team.

"The first two sets it was kind of more of the same," Duda said. "We made a couple of substitutions. Bailey Christensen went in to help block and she did a tremendous job of matching up against them and got some really timely blocks. It wasn't so much what we needed to do but who we needed to play."

Sadie Lott led the attack with 14 kills on a .355 hitting percentage. Cydney Finberg-Roberts recorded 35 assists, while Sacha Legros anchored the defense with 17 digs.

Karina Mickelson led the Orediggers with 10 kills. McKenna Kaelber recorded 30 assists while Maureen Jessop notched 17 digs.

The win gives the Argos a tremendous advantage heading into the final two weeks of the season. The Argos are a game ahead of the second place Battlin' Bears of Rocky Mountain. Their remaining schedule consists of home games against Montana State-Northern and Montana Western, the two bottom teams in the conference.

"It's really big in the sense of now we control our own destiny and we have two weeks at home to finish out our season," Duda said. "We have an opportunity to win the conference and clinch a home-court advantage in the playoffs."

The Argos will take on the Lights (1-14, 1-14) next weekend in Great Falls, Mont.
