LA GRANDE, Ore. – The University of Providence women's soccer team fell to #10 Eastern Oregon on Sunday 3-0.
The Mountaineers (6-0-1, 4-0-1) scored all three goals in the first half. The Argos adjusted and didn't allow as many opportunities in the second half, but couldn't convert on their own attacks.
"They're a quality side," head coach
Brian Clarke said. "They got going early on us. Minus maybe 20 minutes in the first half, I was proud of the way our girls fought and played."
Though the Argos (0-3, 0-3) have played only three games on the season, Clarke can see a tremendous improvement from the team in each game they've played.
"We got some scoring opportunities and some corner kicks and things like that in the attack that two weeks ago we weren't getting," he said. "I think we played with some grit in the second half. I was proud that we didn't give up a goal coming out of the second half. The last two games we've given up goals in the first few minutes of the second half."
The Mountaineers attempted 21 shots, eight on goal, on the afternoon compared to the Argos' 5.
Hannah Eddy led the Argos with four shot attempts, while
Sarah Ortega mustered one. Defensively
Jenna Evertz recorded five saves for the Argos.
The Argos (0-3, 0-3) will get another shot at the Mountaineers (6-0-1, 4-0-1); the two teams will face off again tomorrow at 12 p.m. MTN.
"We got to get better. I feel like we're getting better each game and that's a positive moving forward."
