GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The #18 University of Providence volleyball team got their 14
th straight victory Saturday afternoon, defeating Montana State-Northern in three sets 25-18, 25-11, 27-25.
The Argos (16-2, 16-2) for the most part dominated the first two games with a balanced offensive attack. Things got dicey in the third game as the lead changed several times, but the Argos were able to secure the victory with a kill from
Ember Schwindt.
"I always thought we were going to pull away," head coach
Arunas Duda said. "Northern did a nice job of siding out there towards the end. We had a hard time moving that block up to the right side and slowing their right side down. We weren't very effective from the outside today. When we got out of system we weren't putting the ball away very well."
Offensively,
Sadie Lott led the way with 11 kills, with
Renae Davis right behind her with 10. Schwindt added five kills on a .400 hitting percentage for the Argos.
"Sadie and Renae being able to do it all gives us some flexibility," head coach
Arunas Duda said. "It gives the hitters a different look. It's tough for the block on the other side to trace those two when they move back and forth."
Cydney Finberg-Roberts recorded 34 assists for the Argos. Defensively, five players recorded double-digit digs for the Argos, including 26 from libero
Sacha Legros. Lott recorded a double-double with 18 digs,
Taylor Christensen recorded 12, while both Finberg-Roberts and
Isaura Santos each recorded 10. Lott led the team at the net with five blocks.
Rylee Burmester led the Skylights (2-16, 2-16) with seven kills. Emily Feller recorded 24 assists while Shania Neubauer recorded 25 digs.
The night doubled as Senior Day for the two seniors who are leaving the program for the Argos. Before the game started, the team honored seniors
Renae Davis and
Ember Schwindt for their contributions to the team.
"They are everything we represent," Duda said. "They're great academically. Those two come to practice ready to work hard every single day. They're great in the community, great in the classroom, amazing teammates. They're everything we want our kids to be. We'll miss them for sure."
The Argos will take the floor for the final two games of the regular season next Thursday and Friday for two home games against Montana Western.
