BILLINGS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's soccer team fell to Rocky Mountain College in the final game of the season 2-0 Tuesday afternoon.
The two teams were scoreless for the entirety of the first half, and much of the second. The Battlin' Bears (4-4, 4-4) got on the board in the 62
nd minute when Hannah Borgel scored off of Tiara Duford's assist. The Bears found the net again with 10 seconds remaining to expand the lead to two.
"We battled hard," head coach
Brian Clarke said. "We just got tired and our fitness showed. It was a tough one but I felt like we battled."
The Argos (0-8, 0-8) attempted seven shots on the day, four of which were on target.
Brittany Burman and
Libby Martineau both attempted two shots. Defensively,
Rachel Kosena recorded five saves for the team.
The game marks the end of an unusual season for the Argos. Used to playing their season in the fall, the Argos didn't even arrive on campus until January to begin training. The team also only had two home games on the season when Multnomah decided to forgo the season.
"Even though the results didn't show what I think we were capable of, there was a lot of growth," Clarke said. "From four weeks ago until today, that was good to see. I hope we can continue that up until the fall and build on that and get even better."
Clarke was especially proud of the leadership of the four seniors who won't be returning next season –
Soraya Alfaro,
Dakota Neumann,
Sarah Ortega and
Bri Wikert.
"All our seniors that were out there put everything they had out on the field," Clarke said. "I'm really proud and appreciate them. They battled through such a weird year since last March and made the most out of this opportunity here."
