Argos Conclude Arizona Road Trip With Win Over Embry-Riddle

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The #10 University of Providence won another five-set thriller Saturday night, defeating (RV) Embry-Riddle 25-19, 23-25, 25-15, 21-25, 15-13 in Prescott, Ariz.

It was the second straight game the Argos (9-2) have won in five sets, having defeated Ottawa University Arizona in five Friday evening. The Argos are 3-0 in five set matches on the year.

"I'm really proud of the fact that we may not have played our best but we definitely grinded out a solid victory against a really good team at home," head coach Arunas Duda said. "It was definitely a good challenge and we learned lot. We'll get better from here."

Three players recorded double-digit kills for the Argos, led by Sadie Lott's 19. Jenna Thorne added 16 kills, while Madysen Hoerner recorded 11. Cydney Finberg-Roberts led the team in both assists and digs, recording 42 and 24 respectively. Lott also added seven blocks and four service aces for the squad.

The win marks the end of the Arizona road trip for the Argos. The team finished 2-1 on the weekend, dropping their first game to #12 Bellevue before winning their next two games in five sets.

"Overall I'm pleased with the weekend," Duda said. "We were a little bit inconsistent. We were a little error-prone. We struggled in serve/receive this weekend. Blocking wise, we were either hot or cold. If we can be consistent at the net our defense can only improve from there. We pride ourselves on our defense a lot. We definitely have some things to teach and reteach and continue to improve on."

The Argos remaining regular season games will all be played in Montana, starting with the Frontier Conference Preseason Tournament in Havre, Mont. next weekend. The first game of the four-game schedule for the Argos will be against Carroll College on Friday Sept. 17 at 11:00 a.m.
