HELENA, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball team fell to #12 Carroll College 81-72 Saturday afternoon in Helena.
The Argos (11-12, 2-8), who were down by as many as 18 points in the first half, battled back to cut the lead to five off a
Jake Olsen dunk with exactly five minutes left. The Argos had a chance to cut into the lead even more, but couldn't convert, leading to a Shamrock Campbell three for the Fighting Saints (21-3, 8-2). The Saints never looked backed the rest of the game.
"They were on fire in the first-half," head coach
Steve Keller said. "We actually had a chance to cut it to three a couple of times. You have to give our guys credit, we didn't lay down. We got back in the game. We fought back and didn't quit."
Brendan Howard recorded a double-double on the night, recording 21 points and 10 rebounds.
Dawson Fowler added 10 points and six boards for the squad.
Emmett Linton III and
Elijah Oliver both added nine points while Olsen and
Rasheed Butler contributed eight.
Campbell led the Saints in scoring, recording 30 points on the night on 11-of-15 shooting. Andrew Cook added 18 points for the squad, while Garrett Long added 12. Jovan Sljivancanin added 10 points for the Argos.
"Brendan had a great game," Keller said. "Can't get much better out of him. Shamrock Campbell was on fire tonight. He only missed four shots tonight and it's hard to believe that he missed that many."
The Argos will return home next week with a pair of home games next week. The Argos will host Rocky Mountain College on Thursday before taking on MSU-Northern on Saturday.
