Esary Reaches 2,000 Point Milestone in Loss to Fighting Saints

HELENA, Mont. – The #16 University of Providence women's basketball team fell to #7 Carroll College in a top 25 showdown on Saturday, losing 60-45 in Helena, Mont.

The game featured an impressive milestone for senior Parker Esary, who scored her 2,000th career point early in the first quarter. She ended the night scoring 14 points, which puts at her 2,006 points for her career. She is currently 2nd all-time in program history, trailing only Erin Legel (2,129 points).

"I'm just so proud of her," head coach Bill Himmelberg said. "I wouldn't want anyone else in that post spot for us. She's one of the best that's ever been there. I'm super proud of this accomplishment and what she's done."

The Fighting Saints (19-5, 7-3) got the jump on the Argos (20-4, 8-2), outscoring them 18-8 after the one. The team responded in the second quarter to cut the lead to two at the break. It was all Fighting Saints in the second half however, as they outscored the Argos 34-21 in the second half to take the 15-point victory.

As a team the Argos shot 35.7% from the field and only 18.8% from beyond the arc. The Saints only made three three-pointers, but shot 43.6% from the field.

"I thought we didn't follow the defensive game plan very well, especially in the first quarter," Himmelberg said. "The girls did a good job making some adjustments. What it really come down to is we didn't make enough shots. Thought we had some good looks but we just didn't get it done. Carroll is a good team. Sometimes a good team just plays better than you, especially on the road."

Esary finished with 14 points and eight rebounds. Brooklyn Harn added 10 points off the bench, while Emilee Maldonado recorded nine points, five assists and four rebounds.

Jamie Pickens led the team with 13 points and five rebounds. Danielle Wagner added 11 points and five boards while Kamden Hilborn added 10 points.

The Argos will return to the floor next Thursday with a home game against #18 Rocky Mountain College.

"We don't need to make big changes," Himmelberg said. "We need to get in the gym and make some shots. We'll watch film and make some adjustments. We have a seasoned squad so we'll make some adjustments and bounce back."
