GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball defeated #21 Montana Western 68-57 in a high-profile Frontier Conference women's basketball matchup on Thursday night in the McLaughlin Center.
"I'm proud of the girls," head coach
Bill Himmelberg said. "I thought we followed the game plan really well. Western is a really good team and they're really well-coached. I thought the girls handled the pressure really well tonight. We took control and grinded one out."
Brooklyn Harn tied her career-high with 18 points on the night, shooting six of seven from the field and nailing all four of her three-point attempts from beyond the arc.
Returning All-Americans Emilee Maldonado and
Parker Esary both added double-doubles for the squad; Maldonado recorded a team-high 19 points alongside 10 boards while Esary finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
"Brooklyn can carry our team anytime she wants too right now," Himmelberg said. "She doesn't have to wait and let others do the heavy lifting. She's totally capable. She continues to grow. She's a high-caliber kid both on and off the court. I'm proud of her and I'm proud of Emilee and Parker both. They both had double-doubles and acted like All-Americans. I'm proud of how they handled themselves."
Brynley Fitzgerald led the Bulldogs(10-4, 1-2) with 19 points and three rebounds. Sydney Sheridan added 12 points for the Bulldogs.
The Argos (15-3, 2-1) will now turn their attention to Montana Tech, who will come to the McLaughlin Center on Saturday for a 2 p.m. Frontier Conference bout.
"It's a big win right now because they're in front of us in the polls," Himmelberg said. "But we have to take care of business on Saturday and Tech isn't going to be easy. If we can do that then we have a chance to move back into the Top 25."
