Argo soccer sees seasons come to an end

Providence men and women fall at home to Carroll

Jason Walker, UP Sports Information Director

Great Falls, Mont. - Seniors were celebrated Saturday at Argo Field as the University of Providence men and women closed out the 2022 soccer season. The Argo women needed a win and a Warner Pacific loss to qualify for the Cascade Conference tournament but fell short in a 2-0 loss to Carroll College. Blair Stapleton broke a scoreless match five minutes into the second half to give the Saints the lead. Providence had chances including a shot that would have tied the match that went off the post before Emily Funseth added insurance for Carroll in the 65th minute. The Argos celebrated Kaitlyn Sisler, Brittany Burman, Megan Haugen, Taylor Ward, Dani Chang and Tihanee Freitas as they played their last match. UP finishes its season with a 3-11-1 record, 2-7-1 in CCC play.

The Providence men also played their last match of the year, falling 4-0 to Carroll. The score was 1-0 at the half with the Saints scoring three times in the final 45 minutes. Darin Chavers, Adam Webster, Phillip Camacho, and Jeromino Lago Huerta all scored for Carroll. Cedric Andriantarijaka and Joel Samayoa suited up for the final time for the Argos who end the year 2-11-1, 2-9-1. Samayoa tore his achilles tendon in the spring and was able to play in the last weekend after extensive rehab. Andriantarijaka scored his first two goals Friday.
