Great Falls, Mont. - For the second time this season, the University of Providence and Carroll College went the distance in volleyball. The Argos were victorious in five earlier this season on a neutral court in Billings. Wednesday night in Great Falls, it was the Saints that came out on top taking a 17-25, 25-18, 16-25, 25-21, 15-8 victory in Frontier Conference play. Providence took the first set behind the play of Kendra Pope and Jenna Thorne. Each produced big kills along with Ryan Eddins who closed out the first. After Carroll won the second, the Argos bounced back to take game three as Zoe Naugle started to assert herself. In the fourth, the Saints jumped out to a 19-10 lead and held off a late Argo rally. The fifth set saw Carroll take control from the outset to take the decider and the match.
Naugle led the way with 17 kills for the Argos, adding eight blocks in the loss. Jenna Thorne tallied 13 kills. Taylor Christensen had 24 digs for Providence which falls to 7-15 overall, 0-4 in Frontier play. Elizabeth Heuiser and Sydney Gulick paced the way for the Saints who improve to 9-9, 2-2.
Providence heads to Billings Saturday for a matchup with Rocky Mountain College. That match will start at 6 PM and can be seen at www.upargos.com.
