KIRKLAND, Wash. - Brooklyn Harn and McKenna Reggear each scored 14 to lead the University of Providence women past Haskell Indian Nations College 58-51 Friday night at the Northwest Classic in Kirkland, Washington.
Harn, a senior from Olympia, Wash., finished 5-11 from the field and made the only two three-point shots for Providence. Reggear was 7-13 from the field. Harn (8) and Reggear (6) also combined for 14 rebounds as the Argos outrebounded the Fightin' Indians 48-21.
Maddy Dixon added a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds. Kenedy Cartwright also scored 10 points.
Dixon has been a quiet yet steady influence on the court this year and that according to Head Coach Bill Himmelberg makes everyone around her better as well, "Maddy is just a good player. I mean, McKenna also. Those two are just really good players."
Mahpiya Irving led HINU with 18 points with Jaelyn Two Hearts chipping in with 11. Providence held the Fightin' Indians to 35.3% from the field. The Argos shot 26-60 (43.3%) for the game. UP improves to 5-1 with the victory.
Providence won the game despite 29 turnovers which Himmelberg says makes it tough, "Turnovers continue to be an issue for us for no reason. We just didn't take care of the basketball very well. It is something we have been addressing and will continue to address.
"Winning college basketball games is hard. We are happy we won, and we will work on getting better tomorrow."
The Argos will face host Northwest University (Wash.) Saturday at 6:00 PM. Providence beat the Eagles 64-40 a year ago, but as Himmelberg explains, it is two completely different teams this season, "They have seven new players. It is going to be totally new. We watched them on film a little bit, they are a good team. We will be ok if we take care of the basketball."
