BUTTE, Mont. - What a difference a week can make. Seven days after losing by 21 at Lewis-Clark State, the University of Providence men's basketball team rode another big day from Kenny Curtis to an 85-75 win over the Warriors on Saturday afternoon in Butte.
Curtis scored 26 points with four assists to lead the Argos, one day after scoring 27 in a win over Dickinson State (N.D.). The sophomore from Seattle hit three triples and finished 8-17 from the field overall. Eric Milner added 18 points, Jake Olsen had 13 points and nine rebounds while Drayton Caoile chipped in 11 points, 8 boards.
"Huge win for our guys," said Head Coach Steve Keller. "We played a great second half on the defensive end. They (L-C State) hit a big three to send it to overtime where we responded. Kenny played a great second half and lots of others contributed.
"Great team win and two great wins for us against two good teams."
The Argos trailed 44-38 at halftime and built an eight-point lead with six minutes remaining only to see Silas Bennion hit a three to send it to the extra period. Curtis scored 16 of his points in the second half and OT to lead Providence to a 5-1 overall record including a 7-11 effort from the free throw line in the game.
Davien Brown (22) and Oreon Courtney (21) led the Warriors who shot just under 42% from the field. The Argos shot 30-64 from the floor and only turned the ball over six times.
Providence next travels to Caldwell, Idaho for a Thanksgiving tournament and will play 4th ranked The College of Idaho Friday before facing Eastern Oregon Saturday. Both games will be available to stream at www.upargos.com.
