Helena, Mont. - A big run to end the first and fast start to end the third hurt the University of Providence in a straight sets loss at Carroll College Thursday night in Frontier Conference volleyball. The first set was tied at 16 before the Saints closed out the game on a 9-3 run to take the set 25-19. Providence had chances in the next set with the score tied at 23 only to see Carroll score three of the next four points to get the 26-24 win. The Saints started the third set by scoring the first five points and seven of the first eight to pick up a 25-18 win and sweep the match.
Bailey Christiansen had a team high 10 kills along with nine digs in the loss which snaps the Argos two-match win streak. Zoe Naugle and Ryan Eddins each recorded five kills with Taylor Christensen producing 25 digs.
"We had a lot of opportunities tonight, especially in those first two sets," says Head Coach Arunas Duda. "We didn't bring our best game. We are struggling to play on the road, and we got to get it figured out pretty quickly."
Katherine McEuen led Carroll with nine kills while Hannah Schweikert tallied 33 assists. The Saints outhit Providence .164 to .033 in the match. Carroll improves to 13-12 overall, 5-4 in Frontier play.
Providence drops to 9-18 on the season and sits 2-7 in league play with one regular season match to play. That will be Saturday afternoon at the McLaughlin Center. It will also be Senior Day as the team pays tribute to what coach Duda says have been instrumental in Argos' success through the years, "We have four great seniors. We are really excited about them. They have meant a lot to this program and it's about honoring them for all the hard work they have given over the years. We are excited to have them all play together one last time on the home court in front of friends and family."
