GREAT FALLS, Mont. - The Frontier Conference takes a step away from the non-conference schedule this week as teams open league play this week. That includes the University of Providence facing two Frontier opponents this weekend.
The Argo women (6-1) overall, will host MSU-Northern Thursday night before traveling to Billings to battle Rocky Mountain College Saturday. Providence is coming off two road wins at the Northwest Classic in Kirkland, Wash., beating Haskell Indian Nations College and Northwest (Wash.) University.
Providence has not played since November 19th and is anxious to get started with Frontier play. The Argos will open at home against a Skylights team that is 3-2 on the season. MSU-Northern is averaging 65.0 points per game while giving up 59.0 each night through five games. Senior Riley Kehr leads the way with 13.2 points per game with 5.4 rebounds/game. Behind Kehr is junior Brianna McCullough who averages 12.2 pts and 7.2 rebounds per game.
The Argos are paced by senior guard Brooklyn Harn who scores 12.5 points per game with freshman McKenna Reggear (11.0) and graduate student Reed Hazard (10.2) in scoring. Reggear and Maddy Dixon each grab eight or more rebounds per game as well. The Argos are outscoring opponents by an average of eight points per contest.
"Northern is well coached and will be prepared for us," according to UP Head Coach Bill Himmelberg. "MSU-Northern is off to a good start to the year, they have some new talented girls and a nice mixture of girls with experience returning.
"This will be a good test for us."
Saturday, the Argos travel to face Rocky Mountain College at the Fortin Center. The Battlin' Bears are 4-3 entering the weekend and coming off back-to-back wins over Dickinson State (N.D.) over the Thanksgiving holiday. Rocky has a +17.3-scoring advantage led by Morgan Baird who averages 13.0/game with Kloie Thatcher chipping in just under 11 points per game.
