CHANDLER, Ariz. - The University of Providence was outscored 53-32 in the first half and fell on the final day of the Cactus Classic in Arizona 99-70 to Ottawa University-Arizona Tuesday morning.
Providence shot over 43 percent in the first half, but the Spirit made 21 of 33 shots in the same time to build a lead they would never relinquish. Kolton Hitt scored 14 points while teammate Keshawn Bruner added 10 over the first 20 minutes in building the lead. Hitt would score a game-high 22 including a 6-10 effort from the three-point line.
Eric Milner and Sam Vining each scored 13 to lead the Argos who went 0-3 in the desert. Drayton Caoile chipped in with 10 while battling foul trouble early. The Argos finished the game shooting 38.8% (26-67). Providence made 8 of 24 from beyond the arc. Fisher Richardson led the team with 6 rebounds.
The Argos fall to 6-7 overall and return to the floor playing Dickinson State (N.D.) and Southern Alberta Institute of Technology at the Rocky Mountain College tournament Dec. 29-30.
