BILLINGS, Mont. - The University of Providence women battled back from a 14-point 3rd quarter deficit to take a fourth quarter lead, before a late steal and free throw and fell at Rocky Mountain College 48-46 Saturday afternoon in Frontier Conference basketball.

The Argos trailed 36-22 when Maddy Dixon hit a three-pointer to start an 18-7 run over the next 13 minutes taking the lead on a Dixon lay-up with 2:35 remaining. Mackenzie Dethman would hit a three for Rocky 20 seconds later to put the Battlin' Bears back on top. A Dethman foul with Rocky up two, put Kenedy Cartwright at the free throw line with 1:45 left and Cartwright hit both to tie the game at 46. Dethman would be fouled, going 1-2 to give Rocky the lead back and a steal by Gracee Lekvold sealed the game as Lekvold connected on 1 of 2. Brooklyn Harn missed a long three to win the game.

"Great game for our girls, battled hard on the road," says Providence Head Coach Bill Himmelberg. "We had a great comeback and ended up one possession short.

"One possession in the Frontier can make a difference. Proud of our kids, Wes (Keller, Rocky head coach) did a good job preparing his kids. Both teams battled. It was a classic Frontier game. You know, not high-scoring affair."

Dixon led the Argos with 22 points and eight rebounds. Harn also had eight boards. Reed Hazard and Kenedy Cartwright had eight points and seven rebounds apiece.

Kloie Thatcher led Rocky with 17 points while Dethman added 16 as the Battlin' Bears improve to 2-0 in conference play.

Providence falls to 7-2 overall, 1-1 in the Frontier and returns to the floor Wednesday hosting Briercrest College (Canada) for the annual field-trip game. Over 500 6th graders from the Great Falls area will attend. Fans can watch the game at www.upargos.com beginning at 11:30 AM.
