OGDEN, Utah – The University of Providence hockey team defeated Weber State 5-1 Saturday night to claim 3
rd Place in the Mountain West Conference Tournament.
The win comes a day after the #3 Argos (12-5)
fell to #12 BYU in overtime in the semifinals. Head coach
Jeff Heimel was pleased with how the team responded from the loss.
"We responded pretty well," he said. "Some of the conversations were less about whether we're winning or losing hockey games and more about the behind-the-scenes effort, little details, the things that we feel like we need to do to be a championship hockey team that we weren't doing last night. I thought they were doing well and had some buy-in in that area. We had a good showing. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it was a good bounce-back and a step in the right direction."
Levi Anderson,
Cooper Page,
Will Wright,
Jakob Stevenson and
Ty Alger all found the back of the net for Argos in the win. Anderson also notched two assists, while Page and Stevenson both added one.
Tristan Lewis got the start in the net, finishing with 27 saves.
"Tristan played great," Heimel said. "He was solid. Will had another goal. He's been on fire lately which is great. Levi played a great game as well. Overall we had a better team effort tonight. We mixed the lines up a little bit and I thought that worked well. We were a better team tonight."
The team will now return to Great Falls where they will await the regional rankings to see where the next part of the season will take them. In the meantime, the team will utilize their ice time to tighten a few things up.
"Video plus practice plus reinforcing things that we learned here will be important," Heimel said. "We need to have a couple good weeks of practice."
