GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball team fell to #11 Carroll College 93-56 Thursday night in the final game of the regular season.
"They played harder than us from the get-go," head coach
Steve Keller said. "We weren't ready to play. You have to give Carroll a lot of credit they're playing at a very high level right now. They're going to be tough to beat. They have a chance to win it all."
The Fighting Saints (27-3, 13-2) shot lights out from the field, shooting 53.6% from the field and 40.0% from the three-point line. The Argos (11-17, 2-13) shot only 39.2% from the field and finished 3-of-18 from beyond the arc, good for 16.7% percent.
Brendan Howard led the Argos in scoring, recording 19 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field. He also finished a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line.
Elijah Oliver added 14 points for the squad.
Five Saints finished in double-figures,with Jovan Sljivancanin leading the way with 21 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. Shamrock Campbell added 17 points, while both Brendan Temple and Murat Guzelocak added 13 points. Garrett Long chipped in 10 points for the Saints.
The Saints clinched a share of the Frontier Conference Regular Season Championship with the win and will be the top seed of the Frontier Conference men's basketball postseason tournament. The Argos will be the six-seed in the tournament and will take on Montana Western in Dillon on Feb. 22 in the first round of the playoffs.
"We have to put this one aside," Keller said. "We have to prepare hard. We know we have the talent to make a run but we have to go out there and put it together."
