Second Half Surge Leads Lights Past Argos

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball team fell to MSU-Northern 77-58 Saturday night in the McLaughlin Center.

The Argos (11-14, 2-10), who were playing without three starters, jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but the Lights (17-11, 5-8) recovered, eventually retaking the lead at 22-21 with 6:40 left in the first half. The Lights went on a 13-2 run to take a 41-29 lead into the half.

The squad came out of the break with another 5-0 run to cut the lead to seven, but the Lights hit two straight three-pointers to get it back to double-digits. The Lights got hot in the second half, extending their lead to 29 points before the Argos made a late run to cut into the deficit.

"We battled," head coach Steve Keller said. "We led early and we made a run late. We didn't lay down. It's hard to win when three of our starters out. But we're not making excuses. Northern played great."

Emmett Linton III and Elijah Oliver both led the team with 13 points a piece for the squad. Rashee Stocks added 10 points, while Jake Olsen added nine points and eight boards. Tanner Goligoski added eight points off the bench.

Mascio McCadney led the Lights with 25 points and eight assists while shooting 10-of-12 from the floor. David Harris finished with a double-double, recording 17 points and 12 rebounds. Immanuel Anderson added 12 points for the Lights.

"McCadney was 1-of-12 the other night and he had 17 at half tonight," Keller said. "They have a great team. Him and Harris are a tough combo."

The Argos, who have three games left in the regular season before the Frontier Conference Tournament, will hit the road next week. They'll take on the Montana Western on Thursday, Feb. 10 before traveling to Montana Tech on Saturday, Feb. 12.

"We got a big road trip next week," Keller said. "Hopefully we'll have everybody ready to go so we can get some games all together in and be ready for the tournament."
