GLENDALE, Ariz. – The University of Providence wrestling team completed a weekend sweep on Saturday, handily defeating Arizona Christian 54-0.
"The kids wrestled hard and wrestled well today," head coach
Steve Komac said. "There were a lot of dominant performances out there."
Three Argos won via fall in the dual -
Gavin Gies,
Dougie Swanson and
Dustyn Camacho all recorded pins.
Alan Badley won via technical fall (16-0), while
Jordan Komac won via major decision (14-3).
The win completes a three-dual sweep for the Argos. The team, who is receiving votes in the latest NAIA National Poll,
defeated Vanguard and #19 Embry-Riddle on Friday.
"It was a very good weekend for our program," Komac said. "We have felt all season long that we were heading in the right direction. We've been a little bit better at tournaments than we've been during duals this year. This weekend we competed well in duals. It takes a complete team effort to do well in duals. We were just better up and down the lineup today than we have been."
The team is hoping that the momentum will carry over next week in the team's home dual against #8 MSU-Northern next week in Great Falls.
"This weekend gave us a lot of confidence," Komac said. "Northern has jumped up the rankings pretty high. We know that we can improve upon our earlier performance against them. We look forward to it. It's always an exciting dual. It's good for our kids and good for the state."
