GREAT FALLS, Mont. - The Providence men outscored Rocky Mountain College by 20 points in the second half to earn an 80-67 win at home Saturday in Frontier Conference action.
The Argos jumped out to an 11-3 lead less than four minutes into the game and led by as many as 10 in the first half. Providence led 26-20 with seven minutes remaining in the half before Rocky went on a 15-0 run over the next three minutes and led 41-34 at half.
Beau Santisteven scored nine first half points for the Battlin' Bears who shot just under 42 percent in the half. Marcus Stephens countered with nine of his own to lead the Argos after 20 minutes.
The second half was a near repeat of the second half in Billings back in December when Rocky outscored the Argos by 20 to get the win. This time Saturday, it was Providence's turn. The Argos shot 17 of 29 (58.6%) in the final half, led by Stephens who scored 15 points including 7 of 9 from the free throw line. Defensively, Providence held Rocky to just 26.5% in the second half.
Stephens led the Argos with a game-high 24 points with seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. Davien Harris-Williams had 18 points, Kenny Curtis added 16 while Jake Olsen and Sam Vining each scored eight. Olsen grabbed 15 rebounds including four offensive boards.
Santisteven paced RMC (10-8, 2-4) with 16 points and Elliott Brooks chipped in 13.
Providence improves to 4-2 in the Frontier with a second straight league win and sits 10-9 overall. The Argos are back in action Thursday hosting MSU-Northern at the McLaughlin Center.
