GREAT FALLS, Mont. - A sluggish first quarter thwarted an upset bid by the University of Providence women as No. 11 Carroll College picked up a 61-49 Frontier Conference victory Saturday in Great Falls.

The Saints jumped out to a 17-9 lead after the first 10 minutes as Jamie Pickens and Kamden Hilborn combined for 13 points. The second quarter saw the Argos creep back into the game thanks to Reed Hazard who scored seven points and Providence outscored the Saints by two to trail by six at halftime.

Carroll (19-5, 9-1) used its defense to build a lead by as much as 14 in the second half and was able to use a 40-24 rebounding advantage to pick up the win. The Saints had 16 offensive rebounds which led to a 19-4 margin in second chance points. Pickens paced the way with 22 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Hilborn and Genesis Wilkinson each scored 12. Carroll shot 20-58 for the game (34.5%) as both teams played strong defense.

Providence was led by Reed Hazard who scored 20 points. Maddy Dixon added eight points with four rebounds, Kenedy Cartwright had six points and four rebounds. The Argo women shot 38% (19-50), 3 of 8 from three and made 8-12 from the free throw line. Providence also turned 13 Saints turnovers into 14 points and totaled seven steals for the game as the defense turned in another good performance. McKenna Reggear added four points and a team-high seven rebounds.
