DILLON, Mont. - The University of Providence women jumped out to a 7-0 lead at number 18 Montana Western but could not sustain the pace in a 79-49 loss in Dillon Thursday night in Frontier Conference play.

Reed Hazard's three-pointer less than three minutes into the game gave the Argos the seven-point advantage, but the Bulldogs stormed back over the next few minutes by going on an 11-2 run to get the lead and not look back.

"Western played well tonight," said Providence Head Coach Bill Himmelberg. "I did not think we came very well prepared offensively, and that is partially my fault. We got to do a better job making sure we can score some baskets.

"The girls have to do a better job of following the defensive game plan. Held them to four threes,' I was happy about that. Our guarding off the bounce was not good and our coverage on the post pass was not very good."

Providence finished the game 17 of 56 (30.4%) from the field, 4 of 20 from the three-point line and 11 of 16 at the free throw line. Brooklyn Harn paced the Argos with 11 points, Delaney Pink added 10 with Maddy Dixon grabbing nine rebounds.

Brynley Fitzgerald paced the Bulldogs with 19 points and 10 rebounds, Jordan Sweeney chipped in 14 points with Mesa King (13) and Shainy Mack (10) also scoring in double figures. Montana Western (14-2, 2-1) hit 57.1 percent from the field, making 32 of 56 for the game and turned 18 Providence turnovers into 24 points. UMW also outscored the Argos 50-16 in the paint.

"I thought we did a better job preparing than we did apparently," added Himmelberg. "We are going to have to get back at it and try to get a split at Tech."

The Argo women (11-5, 1-2) play at Montana Tech Saturday afternoon in Butte. Tip is set for 2 PM and can be watched live at www.upargos.com.
