GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball program begins their season this Saturday with a matchup versus #4 Indiana Wesleyan. Tip off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Oct. 28 at the McLaughlin Center in Great Falls, Mont.
Ahead of their season opener the Argos were ranked 24
th in the first NAIA coaches' preseason poll this week. Head coach
Bill Himmelberg on the beginning of their season stated, "I'm excited for us to play someone different, and this gives us a good idea on what we need to improve on."
Argos will be looking to replace the production that
Delaney Pink,
Reed Hazard, and
Brooklyn Harn provided last season. Hazard was a second team all-conference selection and Harn and Pink played in every game last season. Regarding the loss of these three athletes Himmelberg stated, "Whenever you lose three players of high quality it is always challenging, but when you have players leave it also opens up opportunities for others to show what they can do."
UP is returning a few starters from last year including senior
Maddy Dixon, junior
Kolby Pimperton, and sophomore
McKenna Reggear. Dixon was a first team all-conference selection and was the Argos leading scorer last season averaging 11.5 points per game.
The Argos have a few newcomers as well with graudate transfer
Ashlee Maldonado and freshman
Keanna Salave'a,
Monique Carter,
Taliah Lee, and
Eliannah Ramirez. Himmelberg on the new recruits stated, "We have added a lot of fire power this year. I feel that this group coming in is one of our best recruiting classes we have had in my 14-year career."
After the Argos host Indiana Wesleyan, they will welcome Northwest University and Corban University on Nov. 3-4 for the Holiday Inn Classic at the McLaughlin Center.
