GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence volleyball program fell 3-2 to Rocky Mountain College in the Frontier Conference Tournament semi-finals Friday night.
In the first set neither side took the lead by more than three and there would be 13 ties before the set would come even at 24. Junior
Nina Janjic would hit her team high fifth kill of the set to take the first for the Argos (15-11).
The second set was more of the same with neither team gaining a lead by more than three until a block by senior
Jenna Thorne gave UP a 19-15 lead. UP would maintain that edge the rest of the set taking the second 25-19. Senior
Zoe Naugle led the way with five kills in the second set.
The third set saw Rocky Mountain College (21-11) go on a 7-1 run early in the set to take a 9-4 lead. UP would respond scoring five straight behind kills by Thorne, Naugle, and junior
Allyah Tokelau to tie it at 9. Each side would trade runs but a late 5-1 run by the Battlin' Bears secured the third set for RMC 25-22.
RMC got out to a 14-7 lead in the fourth set, and despite a late 7-1 run by the Argos, UP would fall 25-23 in the fourth.Â
In the deciding set, RMC jumped out to a 5-1 lead but kills by Naugle and sophomore
Ryann Eddins brought the match within one. Each side would trade points, but the Battlin' Bears would take control down the stretch taking the fifth set 15-12 and the match 3-2. Â
Thorne led the way for the Argos with 18 kills and Naugle added 16 as well. Sophomore
Bella Thompson had 29 assists and junior
Nati Slazynska added 31. Defensively, senior
Taylor Christensen had 23 digs and Naugle had three total blocks.
