Argos Wrap Up Holiday Inn Classic With Victory Over Corban

Box Score GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball program defeated Corban University 66-57 Saturday night.

The Argos (3-0) scored the first field goal of the game when senior Maddy Dixon's grabbed an offensive rebound and scored the second chance basket.

The Warriors (1-2) would respond with a layup and a three-pointer to take a 7-5 lead midway through the first quarter.

Corban would extend their lead to end the first quarter off a layup by Autumn Agnew to make it 17-12

To start the second quarter Dixon hit a three pointer to cut the Warriors lead to two, but Corban would answer with a three-pointer of their own to maintain their five-point advantage.

Following a timeout, the Warriors would hit their sixth three of the first half to extend their lead to eight, but layups by freshman Keanna Salave'a and graduate transfer Ashlee Maldonado cut the lead to four. UP ended the first half on a 9-2 run.

Dixon scored her 11th point of the game on the first possession of the second half off a feed from Salave'a to bring the score even at 32.

UP would continue their momentum going on a 10-2 run behind layups by Dixon and Salave'a to retake the lead 40-34.

The Warriors would not go away hitting a three-pointer to cut the Argos lead to three, but Maldonado would answer immediately with a pair of threes of her own to make it 50-43.

UP would begin the four quarter on an 8-2 run behind layups from Salave'a and sophomore McKenna Reggear to extend the Argos lead to 12.  

With three minutes left the Warriors would cut the lead to seven, but field goals by Maldonado and Dixon put the game out of reach as the Argos defeated Corban University 66-57.

Dixon led the way for the Argos with 19pts, 6reb, and 6ast, and Salave'a added a double-double with 18pts and 14reb.

The Argos will be back in action Nov. 10 for the Bevo Francis Classic when they face Lindsey Wilson College. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Columbia, Ky.
