Argos Defeat Valley City State

HAVRE, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball program defeated Valley City State 64-48 Saturday afternoon.

Argos (8-2) scored the first basket of the game when graduate transfer Ashlee Maldonado found senior Kolby Pimperton for a three-pointer.

The Vikings (5-6) would answer with a three of their own, but back-to-back baskets by freshman Taliah Lee gave UP a 9-5 edge.

The Argos would then take control in the second quarter going on a 17-0 run to make it 33-12.

Valley City State would score their only basket of the second quarter with 1:22 remaining and layups by freshman Keanna Salave'a and Camryn Cartwright gave UP a 37-14 lead at halftime.

UP would continue their momentum into the third quarter scoring the first six points behind a layup by Salave'a and a pair of baskets by senior Maddy Dixon.

The Vikings would hit a pair of three pointers but a 6-0 run by UP to end the quarter gave the Argos a 52-24 lead going into the fourth.

Despite a late run by Valley City State, UP cruised to a 64-48 victory over the Warriors. Maldonado led the way for UP with 16pts, 8reb, and 4ast.

The Argos will be back in action Dec. 8 when they host the University of Alberta-Augustana. Tip-off is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. in the McLaughlin Center.
