Argos Fall in OT to MSU-Billings

Box Score BILLINGS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball program fell in an exhibition to MSU-Billings 89-87 in overtime Wednesday night.

The Yellowjackets (5-3) would score the first points of the game when Zharan Richmond found Jalen Tot for a three-pointer.

The Argos (5-3) would answer with a jumper from senior Davien Harris-Williams and a hook shot by senior Jake Olsen to give UP a 4-3 lead.

Following a pair of stops, senior Sam Vining's fast break three-pointer would extend the lead to four.

Neither side could gain an edge by more than five the rest of the half as they went into the break tied at 38. Harris-Williams Led the way with 13 points in the first half.

The Argos would score the first basket of the second half off a layup by senior Jaylin Reed, but MSU-Billings would answer with a layup of their own to keep the game even.

There would be six ties and five lead changes over the next seven minutes until a layup by senior Freddy Brown III gave UP a four-point edge.

The Yellowjackets would hit a three-pointer to cut into the UP lead, but a 6-0 run behind a turnaround jumper from junior Drayton Caoile brought the Argo advantage to seven.

Following an MSU-Billings timeout, Harris-Williams would convert an and one opportunity to make it 64-54 with eight minutes remaining.

Over the next six minutes the Yellowjackets would respond with a 19-2 run to take their largest lead of the game 73-66.  

UP was able to stop the run with three minutes left when Vining hit his third three of the game to bring the game within four.

After buckets by both sides a three pointer by Reed and a pair of free throws by Caoile made it a one-point game.

UP would make it a 7-0 run after a step back jumper by Harris-Williams gave the Argos a 78-77 lead.

Following a free throw by the Yellowjackets to tie the game at 78, both sides would miss their attempt at a go-ahead bucket as the game was sent to overtime.

MSU-Billings would score the first four points in OT but a step back three by Harris-Williams kept the game within one.

The Yellowjackets would push their lead to two and were threatening to add to it until Reed threw the ball off a defender as he was falling out of bounds to give the Argos possession. On the offensive end, Harris-Williams would weave his way through the defense for a layup to tie the game at 87.

With time winding down, MSU-Billings would make a layup with eight seconds remaining and UP would come up just short on a game winning three as time expired as the Argos fell 89-87 in overtime.

The Argos will be back in action Dec. 8 when they host the University of Alberta-Augustana. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Great Falls, Mont.
